Set up bills of materials (BOM) and routings
The BOM and the routing are the two foundational definitions of manufacturing: they tell the system what materials are needed and which steps a product goes through to become finished goods.
Bill of materials (BOM)
- Go to Manufacturing → Bill of materials (BOM) → Create.
- Select the finished product and list the materials with their quantities.
- Declare any scrap rate so material demand is calculated accurately.
Routings
Declare the sequence of operations and the corresponding workstation or machine for each. When a production order runs, Apus uses the routing to track progress and record actuals at each station.
Versions
BOMs and routings are versioned — changing a recipe doesn't corrupt the history of past orders. Each production order is tied to the version in effect when it was issued.
TIP
Standardize your material codes before building BOMs — clean codes make demand calculation and inventory reconciliation accurate later on.
